The Urge to Gurge

Gurgitator - [noun] - one who eats; typically refers to competitive eaters.
The Urge to Gurge was LFK’s premier indie newspaper.
Its fifty-three issue run concluded in spring 2025.
The Urge to Gurge - or, as our friends call us, the Gurge - was a hyperlocal print-only weekly newspaper lovingly written, edited, designed, typeset, printed, folded, and distributed by artist and writer Moses Montgomery.
The Gurge was based out of Lawrence, Kansas, also known as LFK. We’ll let you guess what the F stands for. After a whopping YEAR of weekly publication, the Gurge has come to an end. We are forever grateful to the many people who read, wrote for, and supported our publication. The Gurge loves you!

The Urge to Gurge was a newspaper that published no real news and nothing timely or relevant. Instead, we published rants, rambles, art, descriptions of dreams, interviews with randos, baseless accusations, comics, filth, theory, erotica, financial advice from MFA candidates, and other useless drivel. The design was bad and the typography was worse. The Gurge believed in verbosity above clarity, form over function, and feelings over facts. We were propaganda without purpose & publishers without funding. We loved every minute of it.
